Façade was the Parisian magazine founded in 1976 by Alain Benoist and Hervé Pinard, emerging from the city's nightlife and fashion culture at the precise moment when punk, glam, disco, and the new Parisian avant-garde were beginning to overlap. Published until 1983 across fourteen issues, the magazine became one of the defining printed records of Parisian nightlife, fashion, music, and contemporary art during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Issue No. 5, published in 1977, features Mick Jagger on its cover, immediately establishing the magazine's position between established rock culture and the rapidly changing underground scene. Rather than functioning solely as a fashion publication, Façade brought together musicians, artists, photographers, designers, writers, and figures from Parisian nightlife within the same visual and editorial universe.
The contributors form an extraordinary map of the period. The editorial team included Thierry Ardisson, while the issue brings together Pierre Commoy — later one half of the photographic duo Pierre et Gilles — nightlife chronicler Alain Pacadis, Maud Molyneux, Philippe Sollers, photographer Claude Rank, and designers Adeline André and Junko Shimada.
The issue also contains an Issey Miyake advertisement photographed by Guy Bourdin, an advertisement for the Sex Pistols' Paris performance, and features on Iggy Pop and Charles Bukowski. These juxtapositions are central to the identity of Façade: high fashion, international rock, underground literature, photography, and Parisian nightlife existing within the same publication.
Printed by Imprimerie Tourneville in Gentilly, the magazine was distributed not only throughout Paris but also in the United States, Canada, and Japan, reflecting the international network surrounding French fashion and culture at the time.
Façade remains an important document of the Paris scene surrounding the Palace generation, where fashion, punk, art, nightlife, and celebrity culture began to collapse into a single visual language. Issue No. 5 captures that transition at an especially important moment in 1977, when the energy of British punk was entering Paris while the city's own fashion and nightlife culture was developing an increasingly international identity.
An exceptionally well-preserved copy of one of the key early issues of Façade, documenting the intersection of Parisian nightlife, fashion, photography, and punk culture in the late 1970s.

Every Intermission title is handled as an artifact. We believe that preservation is an act of reverence one that begins the moment you open a cover or unspool a tape.
To experience a piece, do so slowly. Allow the air to touch the paper, let light fall softly over each page. Avoid excess pressure; handle edges rather than surfaces. Each mark, fold, or patina is part of its passage through time evidence of care rather than decay.
We encourage collectors to engage not only with the content, but with the gesture of preservation itself: a quiet commitment to memory.
