Ipy Girl Ipy is one of Tad Wakamatsu’s landmark photobooks, capturing a surreal, free-spirited journey across America and beyond, centered on actress and model Haruko Wanibuchi. Documenting encounters with bikers, hippies, New York street life, and more intimate, studio-based nudes (some printed on translucent paper), the book unfolds as a fragmented diary of transience, desire, and outsider reality.

Across its pages Wakamatsu moves from public spaces to private gestures from road trip subcultures to introspective nude portraiture blending documentary urgency with a dreamlike, almost cinematic ambiguity. The result is a bold, immersive portrait of a time and a state of mind, where identity, space, and desire slip and merge across continents and subcultures. A rare and essential work for collectors of Japanese photography and 1970s underground culture.
