Helmut Newton, a master of late 20th-century fashion photography, always considered the printed page to be the most important aspect of his work. He explained that it was within the framework of an editorial or advertising commission that he found his inspiration and produced his best images.
"Pages from the Glossies" brings together some of Newton’s most iconic photographs published in magazines across Europe and the United States. Through more than 500 reproductions of original spreads from Elle, Amica, and, most notably, Vogue, this book showcases how Newton continuously pushed the boundaries of his genre, exploring the interaction between his bold images, typography, and editorial design.
Accompanying these pages, Newton shares personal anecdotes that reveal the context and inspiration behind some of his most memorable photographs. We follow him as he scouts models, sets up a shoot with the captain of a nuclear submarine, collaborates with Anna Wintour, and navigates cultural differences in the portrayal of the nude.
