Guiones is a collaborative photobook by Maureen Muse, Munir Toral, and Kyle Whittall, conceived in Mexico City in the spring of 2021. The project began with the documentation of Toral’s performances ephemeral gestures that exist primarily through the images that record them. Shot on analog film by Muse, these performances were later hand-printed in the darkroom before being scanned and printed on delicate rice paper.

The materiality of the rice paper is central: its partial transparency builds a layered visual experience where each page carries traces of what came before and hints at what follows. This translucency introduces a subtle, erotic, and almost spectral quality, allowing the black and white images to speak to each other across time and sequence.

Rather than forming a linear narrative, the images unfold rhythmically like notes in a composition blending, echoing, and diverging while preserving their individual presence. The result is a book that feels both meticulous and instinctive, a study of gesture, embodiment, and the fragile spaces between visibility and disappearance.

This edition of 100 includes an original silver gelatin print signed by Maureen Muse, underscoring the project’s emphasis on material process, craft, and the intimate relationship between performance, documentation, and the printed image.

Intermission exists in the space between documentation and devotion an ongoing archive of cultural fragments that refuse to vanish. Each title within our portfolio is selected not for trend, but for tension: between what was meant to disappear and what insists on remaining.

We work with objects that speak quietly but persistently publications, recordings, and editions that define the undercurrents of art, sound, and design. Together they form a living record of marginal brilliance, a collection that privileges significance over scale.

Every Intermission title is handled as an artifact. We believe that preservation is an act of reverence one that begins the moment you open a cover or unspool a tape.

To experience a piece, do so slowly. Allow the air to touch the paper, let light fall softly over each page. Avoid excess pressure; handle edges rather than surfaces. Each mark, fold, or patina is part of its passage through time evidence of care rather than decay.

We encourage collectors to engage not only with the content, but with the gesture of preservation itself: a quiet commitment to memory.
